About Me

Yoga Instructor

Namaste and welcome to Banyan Tree Yoga. I am Baljeet Kaur, a Yoga Instructor born and raised in India, birthplace of yoga and a land where the practice is deeply woven into daily life. My journey has been shaped by tradition, nature, service, and an unwavering belief in the power of connection, within ourselves and with each other.

Before stepping into the role of a yoga teacher, I served in the Indian Army, an experience that instilled in me discipline, resilience, and a deep respect for balance, both physical and mental. That chapter of my life taught me how essential it is to find stillness amidst chaos, a lesson that continues to influence my teaching and personal practice today.

I completed my yoga teacher training in India, learning from dedicated teachers who passed down wisdom from ancient lineages. Over time, I’ve explored and taught various styles of yoga including Hatha, Yin, Vinyasa, Gentle Yoga, and more.

For me, yoga is more than movement; it's a sacred journey back to ourselves, to oneness. It’s about creating space within, learning to listen to the body, honoring our breath, and awakening a deeper sense of presence. My classes are rooted in mindfulness and compassion, and I strive to create a safe and welcoming space where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered.

At the core of my teaching is the belief that yoga is for everyone. Whether you are new to the mat, recovering from injury, managing stress, or simply looking to move more consciously, I aim to hold a nurturing, inclusive space where you can reconnect with your own rhythm and inner strength.

Beyond the mat, I’m passionate about nature, plants, and the quiet wisdom they offer. The name Banyan Tree Yoga reflects this love, symbolizing grounding, shelter, growth, and the interconnectedness of all life. I carry this sense of oneness into every class and interaction, knowing that healing is not just physical, but also emotional and spiritual.

My approach to yoga is gentle yet intentional, rooted in compassion and authenticity. I love creating a space where people feel safe to be themselves, to move freely, breathe deeply, and discover their own path back to wholeness. Connection is everything to me, connection with others, with nature, and most importantly, with ourselves.

Thank you for visiting, and I’m honored to share this journey with you. I invite you to explore, breathe, move, and grow together, under the canopy of the Banyan Tree.

Why Banyan Tree? The Meaning Behind Our Name

Choosing a name for this space wasn't about branding. It was about intention. We wanted a name that reflected not just what we teach, but why we teach. Something that honors tradition, supports growth, and creates space for connection. That's why we're called Banyan Tree.

A Living Symbol of Strength and Connection

The banyan tree is one of the most revered trees in India. It doesn't grow in a straight line. It expands outward, slowly and steadily, sending aerial roots from its branches into the ground. Over time, those roots grow into trunks. What starts as one becomes many, a forest connected to a single source.

To us, that's what yoga is.

Your practice doesn't begin and end on the mat. It grows into your life, your habits, your work, your relationships. And just like the banyan, it creates a strong, stable foundation that can support you through all seasons of life.

Rooted in Hatha Yoga and Growing into Gentle Yoga

At Banyan Tree, we're grounded in Hatha Yoga, a classical, balanced approach that connects movement, breath, and stillness. It's not about fast flows or fancy poses. It's about gentle awareness, Strength, Stability, Focus and flexibility.

Hatha creates the conditions for you to return to yourself. To regulate your nervous system. To feel into your body and listen to what it needs, not what the outside world expects.

We teach from tradition but meet you where you are, whether you're brand new to yoga or rebuilding your practice after years away.

A Place for Community, Wherever You Are

Yoga should be accessible, not exclusive. That's why we offer online community classes that bring people together, across cities, countries, and time zones.

You just need a mat, a little space, and a willingness to show up.

Our classes are guided with clarity and care. You'll be supported to move at your pace, honor your limits, and reconnect with your own rhythm.

We believe yoga isn't a performance. It's a practice. And it's better when we do it together.

Supporting Wellness at Work

We also offer corporate yoga and wellness programs, tailored for today's work culture.

Whether it's a weekly virtual or in-person session to help your team reset, or a one-off event focused on breathwork and posture for desk workers, our approach is practical, calming, and sustainable.

Just one hour of pause can help to reduce stress, burnout, and digital fatigue.

What the Banyan Teaches Us

The banyan tree is more than a plant. It's a teacher.

It teaches us that growth takes time, and that's okay.

It shows us that strength isn't loud. It's quiet, steady, rooted.

It reminds us that we don't have to stand alone. We can be part of something larger. Interconnected. Supported.

That's the space we're creating here at Banyan Tree, one breath, one practice, one root at a time.
